Cable and Lace
This is my take on a lace baby blanket, knitted in one piece, with combination of cables and lace hearts. Pattern is presented as 7 page downloadable pdf with charts, written instructions and photographs.
Finished piece as per pattern measures approx. 65x90cm, after washing and blocking, making it a good size blanket for a cot.
I worked it on circular needles due to the width of the blanket and used 3mm/ 80cm needles. However I knit fairly loose, so size 3mm works for me, yet you might prefer working DK on 4mm. The gauge is not crucial, as it is a blanket and not a fitted garment. My gauge was measured across the heart pattern after blocking and it is 20 sts x 28 rows in 10cm square.
You also will need cable needle, stitch markers and tapestry needle.
I used about 270g of Hayfield Kimono DK (lovely yarn, shame, it is discontinued) for my first prototype and about the same amount of Paintbox Simply DK for my second one.
There are plenty of other yarns you might prefer for your baby knitwear, so when substituting I would go by the yardage rather than weight - 750m in total.
The first 2020 copies were offered for free to mark the pattern release on the 4th of April, after that it will be available to purchase with 25% of sales to be donated to a charity of my choice (knowing me, it will be small local animal shelter, as I would adopt them all if I could). Due to COVID-19 outbreak many charities had to cancel their fundraising events, so I hope I can help a little.
As with all my other patterns, this pattern is for personal use only and not for your financial gain, meaning you cannot resell this pattern nor items made using it.
I offer support on all my patterns, so please get in touch if you wish to share your feedback, finished project or ask a question.
Big thanks to my pattern testers Christine, Olive olivetree, Linda and Marsha mrshspeks .
Thank you and happy knitting!
