Cable and Lace Mittens
These mittens are knitted in a luxurious pure merino double knitting yarn, which shows off the combination of pretty lace and elegant cables beautifully. They are slightly longer than your average fingerless mittens, so they will take you from late autumn into early winter with no problem at all, and still be really cosy and warm. The construction of them is reasonably simple; knitted in the round, they have a fully shaped thumb which is set off centre so that the pattern sits naturally on the back of the hand. The ribbing is slightly unusual to allow the cables and lace to ‘grow’ from it neatly, and the decreasing for the rib at the top is done over two rounds to let the cables finish off their last twist rather than be left looking unfinished over the fingers. They are quick and relatively straight forward to knit up, and would make a lovely last minute handmade gift!
