The Cable Bay Sweater is inspired by a NZ inlet where steep hills encase a calm bay. This sweater features a delicate balance of eyelet stitches and wide cables, paired with drop shoulders, balloon sleeves and a relax fit.

Knit with DK / 8 ply weight yarn for confident level knitters, utilising short rows for shoulder/neckline shaping. The sweater is worked flat from the top down to the underarms, then in the round for the remainder of the project. The sleeves and neckline are both picked up and knit in the round.

I recommend a DK / 8 ply weight yarn in something that will make the texture sing, like 100% wool or a wool blend such as merino and alpaca. You could also try holding 4ply wool yarn together with lace-weight mohair, as long as you can comfortably get the right gauge. One tester had great success with Knitpicks Gloss Fingering (70/30 merino/silk) held double with Knitpicks aloft (72/28 mohair/silk).

Both samples shown are size B and the blonde model wears it with approx 20 cm / 8” ease. Designed to be worn with 5-20 cm / 2-8” of positive ease.

Yarn requirements: 1500 (1650, 1800, 2000) (2180, 2380, 2540) metres / 1640 (1777, 1970, 2187) (2384, 2603, 2778) yards of 8 ply / DK weight yarn.
