This classic cable knit hat knits up warm and cozy and is perfect for both men and women and children. This is a great beginner pattern for those knitters who are not all that familiar with cabling. DON’T be scared of cables!!!! Once you do a few you’ll see that they are not difficult & they add such a depth of texture to your knits. Personally, I prefer to knit with cables as they can break up the monotony of a strictly knit/purl pattern.
Happy Knitting!

About Sizing - For quite a few hat or glove knitting patterns, it is recommended to start with a smaller size needle for the ribbing and then switch to a larger size for the body of the hat. For this particular pattern, I have not found that necessary. The pattern is written for an adult large. If you are knitting for someone with a smaller head, I would recommend starting with a size 5 needle for the ribbing and then switching to a size 7 for the remainder of the pattern. If you prefer a slouch hat, I would knit the ribbing on a size 7 needle and then switch to a size 9. For a slouch hat, I would also knit 9 inches before beginning the decrease rounds.
