The inspiration for the Cable Trellis Cowl design was from the German book Omas Strickgeheimnisse. Translated as Grandma’s Knitting Secrets, the book is a treasure for knitters looking for unusual and challenging lace patterns. It is a compilation of stitch designs from a variety of knitters from the mid-19th century, and features lace, twisted stitches, cables, and textures.
The cabled trellis with center lace diamond stitch was created by Juliane Pauker, who published knitting designs in the mid-19th century in Germany.
The cowl has a fold-over collar to give body to the top edge, and optionally could be made longer. The cowl can be knit in a short version (fingering weight), or in a longer version (heavy lace weight) that covers the head for protection from wintry winds.
Pattern was professionally tech edited by Robin Melanson.
