With large needles and yarn held double, this blanket goes quicker than you might think. I used markers between patterns, it really helps to keep your place.

The instructions are written out line by line. Just print them and mark off your place as you go.

You can use any Worsted or Aran yarn, your blanket size will change accordingly. I was generous with yarn amounts. Better to have too much than too little.

I always use acrylic yarn for baby items, easy to wash and no chance of wool allergies. You can use any type of yarn you like, just make sure that Mom will be willing to stick to the washing instructions.
