This eye-catching cabled bangle bag is designed to transport your essentials in style, and should fit any of today’s large smartphones. The pattern includes a technique section with photos that covers the wrap and turn method of working the short rows in the optional base.

The bag is worked on slightly smaller needles (4.5mm or 4mm for looser knitters) than typically used for aran yarn to achieve a firm fabric that maintains its shape. Although a set tension is given, it is more important to ensure the fabric is firm than matching the given tension if substituting yarns.

The bag may be worked with an optional eye-shaped, slightly curved base featuring three pairs of short rows or as a flat bag, simply by omitting the base section and the instructions to replace the markers in the first row of the front.

You could try this in different weights of yarn (always with a slightly smaller needle than usual), to get a different size of bag. If you want a softer handle, use an icord stitched into a loop instead of the bangle. You could also try a sturdy cotton yarn (with a tighter gauge than wool or acrylic). Guidance is given on how to adjust width and length of bag.

The instructions for the short rows in the base section and the photo tutorial can be used elsewhere, e.g. shaping the bustline or hipline of a pullover.
