A warm, snuggly hat to keep you warm on those cold, windy wintry days!
The headband is double layered with ribbing on the inside of the band for toasty ears. The scarf is long enough to wrap around your neck and cover your face.
The patterns for the cables are both written and charted.
The headband is begun with a provisional cast-on and is knitted flat. It is then joined together by either using 3-needle bind off or grating the ends together.
Stitches are picked up around one edge of the headband, and an inner band of Twisted Stitch Ribbing is created.
Once the ribbing is worked to the inner width of the headband the stitches are then pulled through the other edge of the headband, and are ready to be worked for the scarf of the hat.
Once the scarf is finished the cabled scarf tip is created. The scarf stitches are pulled through the bottom of the scarf tip and bound off.
Yarn Suggestions
The hat uses two colours – one for the headband and cabled tip, and the second for the scarf section.
The cabled sections are best worked in solid, semi-solid or subtle marled yarns. The scarf also works well in those yarns and also yarns with long colour transitions.
Only one skein of most of the yarns listed above is needed for the headband and cabled scarf tip of the small and medium sizes. The large size will need a small part of a second skein. Two skeins are needed for the scarf section for all sizes.
The gold / brown hat is made from Wellington Fibres 3-ply Heavy DK weight in colours Honey and Mocha.
The grey / black hat is made from MacAusland’s Woollen Mills 2-ply yarn. This was a custom spun yarn of 100% Shetland wool from a shepherd in Prince Edward Island, Canada. The grey is natural and the black is dyed.
