skills: know how to ch (chain), sc (single crochet), fpDc & fpTc (front post double crochet (for vertical lines) & front post triple crochet (for diagonal lines); they are the same as regular dc & tc except after the initial yarn over(s) you insert hook not into the top loops but in & around the post & out the front, pulling body of st (stitch) toward you, then continue with yarn over & pull through & rest of st as usual; if needed, youtube search ‘front post double crochet’ & ‘front post triple crochet’ for video demos)
