This pattern was originally written for the Get Twisted: Beginner Cable Knitting class taught at StevenBe in Minneapolis. It is designed to give the knitter experience with the mechanics of cabling and a taste of a few different patterns that can be created with simple cables. The hat decreases in pattern and includes one 1x2 cable near the end. Otherwise, all cables are either 1x1 or 2x2, and there are no traveling cables. Easy peasy!

The pattern includes both the hat and the cowl. You will need one skein for the hat or two for the cowl. You can probably get both hat and cowl out of two skeins.

Both charts and written instructions are included for the cabled portions of the pattern.

Instructions for all stitches are provided.

You can adjust sizing for the hat or cowl by changing needle size and/or yarn weight. For more dramatic adjustments to the size of the cowl, increase or decrease your cast-on by increments of 24.
