Cables in a Cinch
I came up with this simple pattern because I wanted a very easy quick knit for craft shows. These can be knit in an evening. It’s a 16 count repeat in 6 rows - so counting is minimal.
This is a great pattern that can be worked up on common needle sizes and in any worsted weight yarn. I’d call this a cheater hat. It can be adorned with pom poms, tassels, faux fur pom-poms.
Uses only the most basic stitches.
Yarn: 134yds/123m any worsted weight yarn.
Needles: US Size 6/4mm & US Size 9/5.5mm 16in/40cm circular needles. Size 9/5.5mm double pointed needles. Cable needle.
Gauge (worked in 2 x 2 ribbing/before blocking): 12 sts and 15 rows = 2in/5cm using smaller needles.
Size/Finished Measurements: This is a one size, fits most adults. Finished measurements untretched/unblocked 17in/43cm circumference; 9 1/2in/24cm height
Pattern Notes: This pattern really benefits from a good blocking. Blocking helps with the stitch definition (especially with cables), shaping the crown, and obtaining the perfect fit. When I knit a hat with a nice fitted brim, I will sometimes only wet from the brim up, and drape the hat over a bowl, smoothing and stretching the cables carefully.
