An added plus to this pattern is that you can make a trivet using cotton yarn and ending the pattern after the first Popcorn row. A few people have told me that they use their placemat as a centerpiece.

Gauge is not important, except you want to keep your stitches relaxed to prevent curling. You may want to block this piece, but it’s not a requirement.
