Knitted with two strands of worsted-weight yarn held together, this sturdy hat is worked in the round from the top of the crown to the wide brim. For the best results, shape the damp felted hat on a foam head or hat form and allow to air-dry thoroughly.

Finished Size About 21” (53.5 cm) head circumference, 42” (106.5 cm) brim circumference and 5” (12.5 cm) brim length, after felting.

Yarn Stonehedge Fiber Mill Shepherd’s Wool Yarn Worsted Weight (100% merino wool; 250 yd 229 m/4 oz 113.5 g): Plum, 2 skeins. Worsted weight (#4 Medium).

Needles Size U.S. 10½ (6.5 mm): 24” (60 cm) circular (cir) and set of 4 double-pointed (don). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers (m); tapestry needle; lingerie bag, old jeans (to help the felting process), and detergent for felting in washing machine.

Gauge 14 sts and 20 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in St st with two strands held together, before felting; 15 sts and 25 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in St st with two strands held together, after felting.
