A delightfully sweet, extremely wearable little shrug with a unique construction. The lace design reminded me of the “cabriole,” a ballet leap.
You will use this pattern again and again: It’s so fun to knit and little ones absolutely love it! It also requires a very small amount of yarn, so it is perfect for destashing, or using up those special skeins of yarn ;)

Never knit lace before? Not to worry! There is no prior knowledge of lace knitting required (both a chart and detailed written instructions are provided!) and the lace pattern is extremely easy, perfect for a lace novice.

3mo (6mo, 12mo, 18mo // 2yo, 4yo, 6yo, 8yo, 10yo)
To fit chest: 16 (17, 18, 19 // 21, 23, 25, 26.5, 28) inches or 40.5 (43, 45.5, 48.5 // 53.5, 58.5, 63.5, 67.5, 71) cm
Garment cross-back from underarm to underarm: 8.75 (9.75, 10, 11 // 11.75, 12.25, 13.5, 14.25, 14.75) inches or 22 (24.5, 25, 27.5 // 29.5, 30.5, 34, 35.5, 37) cm

In general it’s best to go by the recipient’s actual measurements when select- ing the appropriate size instead of the age label. You can also choose a size according to how much ease you’d like the garment to have.

YARN REQUIREMENTS:
Approximately 175 (200, 225, 250 // 300, 325, 375, 450, 500) yards or 160 (183, 206, 229 // 274, 297, 343, 411, 457) meters of worsted weight yarn
Size 3mo sample above is knit in Malabrigo Rios Solidos, colorway “Lila.”

GAUGE:
19 sts x 30 rows = 4 inches or 10 cm in stockinette stitch worked flat, using larger needles, after blocking
19 sts x 40 rows (i.e. 20 ridges) = 4 inches or 10 cm in garter stitch worked flat, using smaller needles, after blocking
Please adjust needle size if needed to achieve the recommended gauge.

NEEDLES:

  • US 6 or 4 mm diameter circular needle (or size needed to match garter stitch gauge) at least 16 inches or 40 cm in length (Note: garment is not knit in the round. Circular needles are needed because they hold all the stitches easily and because of their flexibility.)

  • matching dpns for sleeve cuffs (or long circular needle if us- ing magic loop technique).

  • US 7 or 4.5 mm diameter circular needle (or size needed to match stockinette stitch gauge) at least 24 inches or 60 cm in length (Note: garment is not knit in the round. Circular needles are need- ed because they hold all the stitches easily and because of their flexibility.)

  • matching dpns for sleeves (or long circular needle if using magic loop technique).

NOTIONS:

  • 2 markers

  • tapestry needle

  • 2 pieces of scrap yarn

  • one 3⁄4 inch or 2cm diameter button
