Cache-coeur de Rosières
My testers worked the most amazing wrap-overs. List of testers at the bottom of these notes.
I can’t think of a more versatile garment than a well-fitting wrap!
It’s feminine, elegant, classy, bohemian, relaxed, cozy - and it goes with anything! This wrap-over will be my go-to forever<3
Construction
Top-down. You start from the upper back. The shoulders are shaped by short-rows. The upper fronts are worked from picked up and knit sts across the shoulders of the upper back.
At underarms the upper back and fronts are joined and the lower body is worked in one piece for a seamless version.
(The pattern also gives instructions for a seamed version of the lower body, you may choose which option you prefer).
The set-in sleeves are worked top-down. The sleeve-caps are shaped by short-rows and from the underarm the sleeve is worked in the round to bind-off.
The neck-band is worked from picked-up and knit sts.
The ribbons are worked by i-cords.
Sizes
Finished chest measurements, when fronts are crossed:
81 cm/32”
84 cm/33”
93 cm/36”
101 cm/40”
112 cm/44”
119 cm/47”
129 cm/51”
136 cm/54”
146 cm/57.5”
The sample is worked in size 2, with 5 cm/2” of positive ease. I recommend 0 – 10 cm/0 – 4” of positive ease.
Materials
The cardigan is worked using 2 strands of yarn held together: Yarn 1: Soft Silk Mohair from Knitting for Olive, in the colour-way “Dusty Rose”. This lace-weight yarn comes in balls of 25 gr/0.88 oz and 225 m/246 yards. Yarn 2: Alpaca 1 from Isager, in the colour-way 61. This lace-weight yarn comes in balls of 50 gr/1.76 oz and 400 m/437 yards. You will need 1050/1125/1225/1350/1450/1575/1725/1900 m = 1150/1230/1335/1475/1580/1720/1880/2075 yards of both of the above yarns. Alternatively, you may use 1 strand of a sport/DK weight yarn that works up to gauge.
In this case you need approximately the above yardage, using 1 strand only. For yarn-ideas, I recommend that you look at the samples worked by my testers (list below).
Needles: size 3.5 mm/US4 for the stockinette sections, size 3 mm/US2.5 for the ribbed sections.
Gauge 24 sts and 30 rows/rounds in stockinette sts = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4 “.
The pattern
The pattern is tested and proofread.
There is a schematic.
There is also a schematic of the upper body sections and their knitting direction.
All measurements are given in cm’s as well as in inches.
Knitting techniques
- cast on
- bind off
- short-row shaping (of the shoulders and also the sleevecaps)
- increases by m1l and m1r (towards fronts and armholes)
- picking up and knitting sts (for the front and neck-band)
- i-cords (for the ribbons) Short-rows and i-cords are explained. There are also links to videos showing the techniques used.
Skill level
I think that an adventurous beginner would manage to work the wrap-over. There may be skills that you don’t master yet, but short-rows, picking up sts and i-cords are easy to learn.
Thanks to all my wonderful and talented testers:
