Gauge isn’t important however if you do crochet tightly a looser tension is needed.

Approximately 250 yards of DK weight yarn is needed, as well as crochet hooks sizes 4.00mm-6.5mm.

I would use a softer DK yarn in cotton, silk/ merino blend, or bamboo yarn so that it can drape nicely against your shoulders. I did use 100% DK Merino Wool that I dyed myself for this project and it worked well for me.
