I’ve named this pattern the Cadfael (pronounced CAD-vile – it’s Welsh) because my husband Charles was reading to me from that series of mystery novels (by Ellis Peters) while I worked on it. The shawl is roughly semi-circular, but with a bit of a curve across the top that can be used as a self-collar.

Because of the shape of this shawl, the pattern is a bit, well, dense: the increases are worked over five rows, but because of offset and a straight row between increases, the overall pattern only repeats after twelve rows. I would therefore recommend this shawl for intermediate crocheters and above. Please note also that you’ll need to block pretty strenuously to really bring out the beauty of the stitch pattern.

Copyright notice: I didn’t create the Honeybee stitch pattern, but I did design the shawl shape and edging. Please don’t steal the pattern, claim to have written it, or sell it elsewhere. Thank you.
