Beyond the Pattern….In the February - April 2013 issue of Cast On I designed a skirt with intertwined cables which gradually became smaller. I thought this sort of cable would work well for a swing coat. I added two knit stitches between the cables to make them look like a caduceus.

I had originally planned to do set in sleeves but it is difficult to work cables of this sort into a sleeve. After some experimentation I determined that the cable design would work better on modified drop shoulder sleeves. The sleeve opening is the same for all sizes.

Short rows are used to work the front bands so that they are wider at the bottom than at the top. The reverse stockinette side is the RS of the band which causes the band to “roll” to the WS. The bands are worked separately until the center of the back. They resemble snakes.
