2012.02.13. Caffeinate! has had a make-over!
This pattern has now been re-formatted to 5 pages, the pattern is written on pages 3 and 4 if you want to print only the necessary pages.
Also, any errata have been fixed here and I have tried to clarify the pattern in terms of when to knit back and forth and when to work in the round. I hope that you will enjoy this whimsical, if slightly challenging, pattern.
The revised version is named as 1.2. and it is still free!

Witty, clever, handsome, what’s not to like about a man (who’s not really a man), in fact, a Doctor, Who travels through time and space battling all manner of aliens intent on destroying the Earth? I couldn’t help but notice that the worst of the alien creatures (think Dalek), bears a striking resemblance to the popular French press-style of coffee maker. Conspiracy you say? Perhaps.

For those among us who have succumbed to the command to Caffeinate!, this hand-knit cozy will help to keep your coffee hot in a not so sinister fashion.

The Navy Blue version was made with about 80g of Cascade 220, left over from the Warmest Winter Hat.

The deep navy blue seemed a good classic colour for this alien inspired image; all the better to hide in the night sky! and it turned out very well, indeed.

The Purple version was made with exactly 2 - 50 g balls of King Cole’s Merino Blend (100% wool) in shade 767, Damson.

Another Aran or Worsted weight yarn could be substituted but consider metres before grams and be sure to do a gauge swatch first!

Knit in one piece from the base to the top alternating between flat and in the round knitting to accommodate the openings for the handle and the spout, while minimizing any seaming.

The welts are linked together to form tube-like structures by working two rows together as instructed—the current row and one that was made a few rows before. This really is easy to do and saves having to sew additional seams later on.

The Bobbles along the side of the cozy are non-traditional, in that they are made over 3 rows, but the ones on the top of the cozy are classic 4 stitch bobbles.

There is a tiny bit of crochet, just along the handle opening to neaten the edge and to make the button band and button loops.
