Cairn
THIS IS A PDF INSTANT DOWNLOAD KNITTING PATTERN ONLY - NOT THE FINISHED ITEM
Cairn has been inspired by my local area of Royal Deeside. I live only a stones throw away from the Cairncorm National Park in Scotland. It’s filled with mountains, hills, lochs and forests. It’s a nature lovers dream and the ideal location to go for those epic long walks. There is a local walk called the Deeside Way that stretches from Aberdeen through to Braemar were you can access the Cairngorms. It was originally a Victorian railway line, commissioned by Queen Victoria so she could easily access her beloved Balmoral Castle. It’s a wonderful route and the scenery along the way is simply magnificent!
My Cairn design is a fair isle tube scarf that’s knitted in the round to form the tube. The design reflects the snow-covered mountains and the lochs of the area. It features a corrugated rib which elevates the design and looks so good against the fair isle sections.
You will need experience to knit this design therefore, I would suggest the skill level is intermediate as you will need experience of fair isle knitting worked in the round. The rhythm is steady with breaks to keep your mind sharp!
As always, I have used JC Rennie’s Supersoft Lambswool which is a fine 4ply yarn. It’s produced up here in the north of Scotland and can be purchased in balls and on the cone, directly from their mill at www.knitrennie.com. I personally work from the cone as its better value for money. If you choose a different yarn, please be mindful of the yardage.
