I designed these cozy fingerless mitts to match my Caiseal Hat, sold separately here on Ravelry. The interplay of patterns evokes the lush rolling hills and patchwork farmlands around Ireland’s Rock of Cashel. Choose a bold or neutral color to show off the beautiful textures in this pattern.

These mitts are worked in the round from the bottom up. They feature a seed-stitch palm and three Aran cables patterns on the upper mitt to match the center front and back of the Caiseal Hat. The mitts begin and end with twisted rib knit and include a thumb gusset worked into the pattern.

This pattern is sized to fit the average adult hand.

The gauge is 20 stitches and 28 rows over 4” in stockinette stitch.

This pattern is recommended for intermediate knitters. You must be able to make cables as well as decrease and increase stitches. You will also need to use the cable cast-on method to add stitches at the thumb gusset. There are good tutorials on the cable cast-on method on Youtube.

For the Kelly Green version, I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Superwash, 100% superwash wool, worsted weight yarn. You will need 2 balls of Grass #26328. For the Chestnut Heather version, I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease 80% acrylic, 20% wool, worsted weight yarn. You will need 1 ball of Chestnut Heather #179. You may substitute any worsted weight yarn for this pattern. You will also need 12” circular needles and double pointed needles in size US 7 or whatever size necessary to get the gauge.
