I love this vest and I want to share the pattern with you. I picked up the idea in a history-themed series, where it looked so cozy and unique (not to mention the waist-slimming effect). I made it more interesting by adding the hearts-shaped cable and the ribbed edge. And you know what? It can also be worn as a hooded cowl or as an infinity scarf. 3-in-1!

This pattern is suitable for you if you know how the basics of knitting: cast-on, cast-off, knit and purl, as well as the basics of picking up stitches along the side with a crochet hook. Although the cables look complicated, I made them easy by explaining each step and taking photos to show you (one such photo is shown here as an example), so you get an idea). The same for the side rib: you will have to pick up stitches and I explain how to in detail, including photos.

All my patterns are using Calibri font size 13 in black on white, so they are accessible and easy to read on different screens and when printed. All abbreviations and acronyms are explained in the pattern.

You will get a document that includes:

  • Written instructions in English, using US, UK and metric measurements and needle sizes
  • Chart of the main cable repeat (you can use the written instructions without the chart; this is just here in case you prefer charts)
  • Photos showing how to make each cable and how to pick up stitches on the edges
  • Photos and instructions for binding the piece

The instructions are given for 6 different sizes, corresponding to bust sizes ranging from 80 cm to 130 cm (31.5 to 51.2 inches). It can be easily adapted for sizes outside this range (I have included instructions for how to do that)

You will need:

  • Circular Knitting needles size 4mm / 8 UK / 6 US. (47 to 59 in) that are 120-150 cm long (47 to 59 in).
  • 1 Crochet needle size 3 mm (US C or D, UK 11).
  • Cable needle one size smaller than the knitting needles.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • 700 metres (770 yards) of yarn (DK weight) for a bust size of 100 cm (39.4 in). I recommend Merino because it is a little elastic. More details about recommended tools, yarn and gauge are included in the pattern.

Enjoy making this lovely unique vest!
