Caitriona is the sister of Ashling - both are daughters of a dear Ravelry-friend, When I named a shawl-pattern after Ashling, Caitriona wanted (naturally:)) a pattern named after her as well!
It took me some time to get started - I wanted the patterns to have something in common.
Well - here it is, Caitrionas cardigan! It shares the same Spanish lace-pattern as “Ashling” - and just like two sisters there are similarities as well as differences.

The pattern has been tested by a wonderful group of testers. See bottom of notes for more details.

Design Caitrionas cardigan is a light-weight, feminine and flattering cardigan that will go with most of the pieces in the wardrobe. It features lots of lace, garter borders, integrated button-bands and a neat crescent-shaped “collar”. Worked in your favourite color it might become your dearest cardigan!’

ConstructionCaitrionas Cardigan is worked seamlessly. Lower body and sleeves are worked bottom-up (body is worked flat, sleeves in the round) to armholes, where the pieces are assembled and continued for the upper body. The upper sleeves are completely integrated in the knitting. Button-bands are integrated in the knitting, as well as the sleeves of the upper body - which makes finishing work very limited.

The lace-pattern is repetetive and easy to memorize.

As this is a great-fitting cardigan with all pieces integrated in the knitting it would also serve as a pattern for a simple cardigan in st st only.

Sizes Finished bust measurements are: 35.5” - 37” - 39” - 40.5” - 43” - 44.5” - 46” - 48”.
Cardigan could be made to desired length. Opt for more yarn if you add length. Measurements are after washing/blocking.
Sample size is made with less than 1” of positive ease.

Yarn I used the soft and lovely Alpaca Superfine 3/11 from Iloyarn.
Alpaca Superfine 3/11 is a fingering weight/4-ply wool that comes in balls of 50gr/1.76oz and 183m/200yards.
You will need 6/7/7/8/8/9/9/10 balls of above quality.
You could substitute this yarn for a similar quality, as long as you stay true to gauge. Choose a natural fibre with great stitch definition for best result!

Needles: Choose needle size to obtain gauge! (I used needle size 3mm/US2.5).
You will need a long, circular needle for the lower and upper body, a set of dpns for the sleeves (or a circular needle if working the magic loop) - and straight or circular needles to work the collar.

Notions 6 safety-pins (or small holders, or even a piece of wool)
15/15/15/15/16/16/16/17 buttons - 1.1cm/0.45” across

Gauge For best result take time to check gauge!
The gauge is the same over st st as well as lace-pattern:
1010cm/4x4” = 26 sts and 36 rows
I used needle size 3mm/US2.5 to achieve gauge

Knitting skills:
Abbreviations used: yo, ssk, k2tog, sl1k2togpsso, m1l, m1r
Knitting in the round. Following chart and/or written instructions for lace. I would say that the skill level is intermediate, or a bit below.
