Cake for Breakfast Shawl
Cake for Breakfast is a fun knit that is a cake-shaped shawl — meaning it has “layers.”
This shawl is sort of a reason — because you know we need a reason — to buy some fun yarn. It requires a solid, a variegated, and a speckled. Yay!
Materials: 670 yards of fingering weight yarn as follows: 270
yards of a variegated (Color A); 200 yards of a speckled
(Color B); and 200 yards of a solid (Color C).
You can certainly use leftovers of fingering weight yarn from other projects if you know the remaining yardage.
No layer is the same, so you won’t likely get bored. There are a couple of challenging layers, but they’re not impossible.
Finished measurements: Approximately 22” / 55 cm from CO to BO edge, 75” / 190 cm wingspan length. Measurements taken after blocking.
My inspiration for this shawl was a skein of yarn by Madelinetosh, bought at the yarn shop I work at in Florida called Four Purls Yarn Shop: FourPurls.com
The yarns / colorways in the original “Cake for Breakfast” are:
— Tosh Sock by Madelinetosh / Popoki (Color A)
— Endlessly Soft Sock & Shawl Yarn by Kaleidoscope DyeWorks / Pixie Dust (Color B)
— Adorn Luxe by Three Irish Girls / Jelly Shoes (Color C)

Update 8/27/17
Rows 65 and 92 had errors. They are fixed and a new version is now uploaded.
They should read:
- Row 65: K3, * Slwyif, K4 * Repeat * to * to last 2 stitches, Slwyif, K1.
- Row 92: K1, * K2Tog * Repeat * to * to last stitch, K1.
Update 9/17/17
Error:
Layer 12, Row 145:
The end of that row should say to the last 4 stitches (not 5). Then remove that first K1.
So it should be “to the last 4 stitches, P3, K1.”
Also added three helpful hints and compressed the PDF so it downloads faster and takes up less space.
Happy knitting!
