Caldera
The Greek island of Santorini has a caldera, a large crater created by a volcanic eruption 3,500 years ago, submerged below the Agean Sea.
This shawl is inspired by the island’s dark charcoal and grey volcanic rock, high cliffs and deep blue sea. The cliffs have stunning views over the caldera. The Caldera shawl converts into a shrug by attaching two buttons to the bottom of each ‘spine’.

Errata 1 Oct 2016:
Applies to print and pdf patterns purchased before 1 Oct 2016.
I’ve altered row 1 as knitting it as written results in too many stitch markers and too many stitches after row 3. New row 1 below.
Row 1 (RS): Sl wyif, k1, (yo, k1, yo, k1) twice, yo, k1, yo, k2. 6 sts inc.
Patterns purchased via Ravelry after 1 Oct 2016 do not have this error.
