I was looking for a good pattern to use for Mad May 2013. I wanted something that was somewhere in between a scarf and a shawl, happy and bright enough to back up the beautiful yarn but elegant and subdued enough for both everyday and formal wear. The name comes from a modern folk ballad originally by Dougie MacLean but covered by many artists since. My favorite version by the band Scrum came on one beautiful spring day while I happened to be driving through my own hometown. It seemed like kismet, and the name stuck. The lacey border reminds me of the mountains of northern Scotland and the leaves are for the lush forests. Enjoy!
Materials
• About 400 yards dk or light worsted weight yarn (Sample shown in madelinetosh merino dk in flashdance) though it’s easy to substitute any weight yarn you choose!
• US 8 16” straight or circular needles(s)
Pattern Notes
• This pattern is easily adaptable to any weight yarn. Simply adjust the number of repeats included in each section! The sample shown had 4 repeats in each of the increase and decrease sections and 16 in the body section.
Thank you so much Anne, Elle, Karen, Seta, & Pam for test knitting for me! =D
