Reminiscent of a stripy beetle’s back, the Calidum Mitts are knit entirely in twined stitch, a Scandinavian technique where two yarns are twisted around each other on the back of the work. When knit in a rustic, woollen spun yarn, this stitch creates a dense and warm fabric sure to keep your hands warm on the chilliest of winter days. The pattern includes a split mitten option for improved dexterity, perfect for winter bike riders or skiers.

Construction Plan
Beginning with a contrast-colour cast-on, the cuff is knit in Twined Ribbing before establishing Two-Colour Twined Stockinette and increasing for the right or left thumb gusset. Gusset stitches are placed on hold and the rest of the mitten is worked either to fingertips or, for split mitten option, to the base of the fingers. Fingers are knit to length one at a time with just two quick decrease rounds at the tips. Finally, gusset stitches are picked back up and the thumb is knit to desired length.
