Call Before Digging
Note as of 4/25/24 - I am currently working on an update to this pattern, which will include more custom sizing notes. Until that is released, please note that while this hat is EXTREMELY stretchy width wise due to the ribbing, the more negative ease it has, the shorter the hat will become. If you are knitting your hat with significant negative ease, you will want to add one to two cable repeats, depending on your desired final hat length.
Note about yarn: either DK or a light worsted weight yarn will work for this pattern as written. I found Springvale, while categorized as a worsted, worked well, the only difference being in row gauge, yeilding a hat about 1” longer than the one made with the Kathmandu DK. If you are using a light worsted weight yarn and would like it to be shorter, I’d recommend doing only three cable repeats instead of four in the cable section.
Note about gauge: use whatever needles necessary to get the gauge specified on the ball band of your yarn.
