Our odyssey begins in the coastal town of Ocean City as we cast on our shawls and check in with Dr. Persephone Kore, the head of the Aquatic Division of Lattes & Llamas Society for Knitterly Cryptid Studies. Call of the Siren is an adventure filled knit and seek mystery knit along in the same style as Hunting Sasquatch and Nessie Expedition. This is a shawl project that combines mosaic and double knitting, which will be delivered in five parts.
Originally released as an MKAL, The Call Of The Siren is presented here with the narrative that accompanied each clue release. The pattern includes both written and charted instructions.
We designed and dyed yarn to specifically compliment this pattern. If you purchase the Mermaid MKAL kit you will receive 2 balls of yarn: each is a 100g cake of our flagship Vacation Yarn. The cakes are used in tandem to create color work using Mosaic and Double Knitting techniques. These cakes have been specially dyed to provide beautifully contrasting colors that shift across the color wheel as you work. The colors were designed to be pulled from the center of the cake. You do not need to purchase the kit to participate in the MKAL, the pattern is available for purchase on Ravelry. If you are using stash yarn make sure to choose sharply contrasting colors.
Gauge is not that important on the mosaic portions of the shawl, but it is important on the double knitting portion of the shawl. Take the time to check your gauge in double knitting to determine your needle sizes for the project.
Required skills: Knitting, purling, decreasing, increasing, double-sided knitting, Mosaic (slipped stitch) knitting. This is an intermediate pattern.
Update: The MKAL concluded in June 2018, and the complete pattern is now available. The pattern includes the short story that accompanied each clue release.
