The CALM vest No.1 is crocheted from side to side, and NOT from top to bottom. It is crocheted all in one piece and is worked in half doub. crochet stitches in back loops only. That creates this beautiful “Brioche-knit” look .

Begin by crocheting a swatch (no blocking) to determine which needle size you need to achieve the correct gauge before starting the project – note that the gauge needs to be correct both in width and height, for you to be able to achieve the measurements given.

Size guide
The CALM vest No.1 is designed to have approx. 30-40cm (12-16 inches) of positive ease, meaning it is designed to be approx. 30-40cm (12-16 inches) larger in circumference than your bust measurement. The sizes XS/S (M/L) XL/2XL (3XL/4XL) are designed to fit a bust circumference of approx. 90 (105) 120 (140) cm. .

The measurements for the finished garment are given on the fifth page of the pattern. Before beginning your project, measure yourself to determine which size will fit you the best.
TIP: If you are a size XL and above, I suggest to go for a positive ease of only 25cm. I am wearing a size M/L in the picture, even though I am normally a size XL, with a bust width of 110cm.

Sizes: XS/S (M/L) XL/2XL (3XL/4XL)

Bust circumference: approx. 130cm (145cm) 160cm (174cm)

Length mid back: approx. 45cm (48cm) 55cm (58cm)

Gauge: 8 rows x 13 hdc blo = approx. 10 x 10 cm. NO wash or blocking

Needle: 7 mm - Preferable a needle with a pointy tip, such as KnitPro´s bamboo or wood needles. It makes it easier working in back loops only, and especially to work into a firm sc by the edge.

YARDAGE:
XS/S - approx. 560m (M/L - approx. 670m) XL/2XL - approx. 826m (3XL/4XL - approx. 962m)

The yardage is mentioned in meters, for You to calculate the yardage by looking at the yarn length.
The shown sample is a size M/L using 6 skeins Børstet Alpakka - Sandnes Garn.

As shown on the pictures You can make many colour options of the vest. Solid colour, 2 colour or 4 colour block. You can also make stripes or checks. See my Instagram for more inspiration.

I also recommend to make the vest in one strand Double Sunday together with one strand Tynn Silk Mohair (Sandnes). Just follow the same yardage as mentioned above, but buy the amount of both kinds of yarn.
