Calsada Scarf
In Calsada, garter stitch rectangles alternate with lace to produce this feminine shoulder scarf, giving it the look of paving stones, or calsada as they are known in Portuguese. The edging combines with garter stitch short rows to create a graceful crescent-shaped arc and give the scarf depth at the back of the neck.
Calsada comes in one size, and the pattern includes both written and charted instructions, along with a schematic for blocking to finished size.
For the adventurous intermediate knitter.
Pattern update note: A minor mistake with the labels of the knit stitch symbols in the legend of the chart was discovered after the initial publication (patterns with “Last update 2010-08-31” in the footer).
The labels for the WS and RS knit stitch symbols were inadvertently swapped. This has no effect on the actual knitting of the lace pattern as they are both knit stitches and WS/RS rows are correctly noted on the chart itself.
A revised version (“Last update 2010-09-08” in the footer) has been published to Patternfish - if you purchased a copy there, you can download the revised one if you wish.
Here are the correctly labeled symbols for the legend:
