Calypso Clutch
Dropped double treble crochet stitches form this textured chevron pattern. A simple fabric lining hides the plastic canvas that gives this crochet clutch its sleek and sturdy shape. Magnetic snaps keep the flap in place, and large decorative buttons add modern style.
Finished Size: About 9 1/2” wide, 5 1/2” tall, and 2” thick (at bottom of clutch).
Yarn: The Sassy Skein Key West Karibbean Kotton Kollection DK (100% mercerized cotton; 109 yd 100 m/1 3/4 oz 50 g; CYCA #3): #134 dolphin grey (MC), #120 violet (CC), 2 skeins each.
Hook Size: E/4 (3.5 mm). Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Notions: St marker (m); yarn needle; one sheet of 5 mesh plastic canvas with large enough holes for yarn needle to fit through (this should measure about 1/2” smaller than dimensions of main section of purse); rectangle of cotton woven fabric that measures approximately 10” X 16” for lining (or about 1/2” larger in each direction than main section of purse); two sets of 3/4” magnetic purse snaps; sewing pins; two 15/8” 41 mm buttons; sewing needle and thread that matches lining fabric.
Gauge: 19 sts and 13 rows in textured chevron patt = 4”. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
