Calypso's Crescent
by Mary Forte
Calypso is an island nymph from Greek mythology. Surely, if she had a scarf, it would celebrate the beauty of ocean fauna. This scarf consists of a number of fun techniques to reflect the beauty of fins and scales: crisp pleats, crescent shaping, double seed stitch, and rolled borders.
Don’t let the number of cast-on stitches deter you; you will only be working that many for a couple of inches, and then you will reduce the number of stitches by two thirds. A series of short rows will create the crescent shape and fan out the pleats to show them off.
