Cambridge Satchel
When leaning over the Bridge of Sighs on a visit to Cambridge I was inspired to make a knitted satchel for students in dark browns to reflect the colours of the architecture in this beautiful university town. The satchel is big enough and sturdy enough for a netbook and a couple of A4 pads, and fastens with two buckles. A matching purse completes the look. It is knitted in st st to create a smooth look and sewn together in an unusual way to mimic the seamed style of a leather satchel.
This satchel and matching purse are a simple rectangular shape, making the knitting really easy. The trick is all in the lining – there is a lot of sewing involved in this project, but it’s all necessary in order to get a finished bag which will stand up to daily use.
You will need two buckles and approx 1m of your choice of lining fabric. We used Tweed fabric to match the satchel.
