One of three designs in the Open Road Collection, the cowl can be knit in either a medium/standard size (about 54 inches/137 cm circumference) or an extra long/wide version (68 inches/173 cm).

Inspired by Walt Whitman’s “Song of the Open Road,” the collection includes a coordinating sweater, mitts, and cowl that can be worn separately or together on your outdoor adventures.

Finished (blocked) measurements:
Medium: 8.5 inches/22 cm wide by 54 inches/137 cm circumference
Large: 13.25 inches/34 cm wide by 68 inches/173 cm circumference

Yarn/Yardage:
Medium: 550 yds/503 m fingering weight yarn. The medium sample was knit with 3 skeins of Quince & Co. Finch 100% American wool; 221yd/202m per 50g skein in Kumlien’s Gull.
Large: 1,050 yds/960 m fingering weight yarn. The large sample was knit with 5 skeins of Quince & Co. Finch 100% American wool; 221yd/202m per 50g skein in Egret.

Needles and Notions:
--US #4/3.50mm needles OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
--Crochet hook in size G/4.0 mm, smooth waste yarn, spare knitting needle for three-needle bind off, tapestry needle, stitch markers (optional)

Construction:
Worked flat from a provisional cast-on. After the finished piece is blocked, the live stitches at the beginning and end are joined using the three-needle bind-off.

Gauge:
29 sts/32 rows = 4”/10 cm in lace pattern (Camerado Chart C) after blocking
