This shawlette is knitted in garter stitch with a “lace by music”
edging pattern. Lace by music is just another way of writing lace edging patterns. It’s very traditional in Portugal and we just use symbols to represent the yarn over and the decreases. It’s a very simple pattern which I’m sure you’ll memorize quickly and let the music guide you. We begin with a few stitches and work with increases to the half of the shawl, then decreases for the other half. The lace edging is written using a traditional “lace by music” language which reads as follows:
0 = yarn over.
X = work 2 sts together.
Example: “6 0X 3” reads “work 6 sts, yarn over, work 2 sts
together, work 3 sts”.

Note: you can choose to knit this shawlette using the continental/ English knitting style (garter stitch worked by knitting all sts), or in the Portuguese technique (garter stitch worked by purling all sts).

YARN: 1 ball of ALVOR PRINT from Rosários4, color 67.
GAUGE: 19 sts and 16 garter ridges (32 rows) - 10x10 cm in garter stitch with 3.5 mm needle, washed and blocked (it’s important to wash and block your swatch to get the correct gauge). Note that the gauge is not indispensable for this garment, but variations will modify the yarn consumption as well as the final size.
NEEDLES: 3.5 mm needles (if necessary, adjust the needle size to match the gauge).
NOTIONS: Tapestry needle, stitch markers.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 148 cm long and 24 cm wide in the middle.

Este lenço é tricotado de lado, em ponto mousse e com uma ourela em renda por música. A renda está escrita com a simbologia tradicional das “rendas por música”. É um padrão muito simples que vai memorizar rapidamente e disfrutar de tricotar ao som da música. Começamos com poucas malhas e tricotamos com aumentos até meio do xaile, depois com diminuições até ao final. A ourela de renda está escrita usando a linguagem tradicional das “rendas por música”, que se lê da seguinte forma:
0 = laçada.
X = tricotar 2 malhas juntas.
Exemplo: “6 0X 3” significa “tricotar 6 malhas, laçada, tricotar 2 malhas juntas, tricotar 3 malhas”.
Nota: pode optar por tricotar este lenço na técnica continental/ inglesa (ponto mousse tricotado sempre em meia), ou na técnica
portuguesa (ponto mousse tricotado sempre em liga)

FIO: 1 novelo de ALVOR PRINT da Rosários 4, cor 67.
AMOSTRA: 19 ms e 16 cordões de liga (32 carrs) - 10x10 cm em ponto mousse com agulha de 3.5 mm, lavada e blocada (é importante lavar e secar a amostra pois a contagem de malhas pode alterar com a primeira lavagem). O valor da amostra não é determinante neste projecto, no entanto, diferenças no valor da amostra podem alterar as medidas finais e a quantidade de fio necessária.
AGULHAS: agulhas de 3.5 mm (se necessário, ajuste o número da
agulha para obter o valor da amostra).
ACESSÓRIOS: agulha de tapeçaria, marcadores de malhas.
MEDIDAS FINAIS: 148 cm de comprimento e 24 cm de largura no centro.
