OK, I’m not typically a campfire kind of person, but this summer I was so excited to be attending the Medomak Fiber Retreat in Washington, Maine! I have been following this retreat for a number of years and, finally, my schedule allows me to go. But the world had a different idea and, yesterday, the retreat was cancelled!

I was most excited to take classes from some of my favorite fiber friends, spend time with old and new friends around a campfire and to support the wonderful Casey of PortFiber’s Cashmere People yarns. So, in honor of the retreat, I designed this cozy, graphic shawl!

CAMPFIRE is a traditional triangle shawl knit in the most wonderful cashgora fiber (crossbreed of Angora (mohair) and cashmere-producing goats), Cashmere People Yarns. Ethically sourced and environmentally conscious, Cashmere People’s Yarns are handspun and hand-dyed by women in Afghanistan and Tajikistan -- each label carries a photograph and name of the woman who produced your skein. Then the yarn is marketed in the United States by PortFiber.

As much as I wish that I could wear my CAMPFIRE at the retreat this summer, I am so pleased to be able to support Casey and the women of Cashmere People Yarns.

YARN

• Cashmere People Cashgora 100% Cashgora Fiber; 315 yds/290m per 100g skein: 1 skein each in 3 different colors (shown in colors Midnight (A), Marigold (B) and Pamirs (C)) or
• Approx 945 yds/865m of sport weight yarn evenly divided among 3 colors

NEEDLES

• US size 5 (3.75mm) 32”/80cm circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge

GAUGE

• 20 sts and 32 rows = 4”/10cm in St st after blocking. While exact gauge is not critical, variation in gauge will alter yardage requirement and measurements.

CONSTRUCTION
Shawl begins with a St st tab at center top and is worked down to the bottom edge. The top edge is worked as an integrated I-cord and the bottom is finished with an elastic BO. 4 yo increases are worked on every RS row--1 between the main fabric and the I-cord edge at each end and 1 on either side of the center st—to form the triangular shape. These yos are purled through the back loop on each WS row. A variety of pattern stitches are used to create texture.
