In late winter, I begin to hunger for green and this shows up in my yarn yearnings. This warm and textured cowl will get you through the last of winter and help you remember the warmth of spring to come.

Yarn: The model uses two colors. Two skeins or approximately 445 yards of Baah Sonoma in Black Perl. And approximately 169 yards (less than one skein) of Tosh DK in Grasshopper. Pick your favorite DK weight yarns.

Use 7 (US) circular needles in 24 inch or 16 inch which ever you are more comfortable with. A set of 7 dpns will allow you to more easily create the i-cord for the cast on. Tapestry needle will weave in the ends. If you prefer a looser softer fabric, try using going up a needle size needles.

Gauge: 23 stitches by 29 rows over 4” square in stockinette stitch on 7 needles. Test swatch was done with the Tosh DK.

Adjusting the pattern:
You can easily make the cowl bigger or smaller. You can adjust the circumference by adding or dropping in sets of five stitches and you can adjust the length by adding or dropping five rows.

I love deep, full cowls so my version uses three skeins of yarn but you can easily adjust it to use two skeins. It will make a shorter cowl, and if you do this you will need to adjust your striping to make it your own.

The pattern indicates the color rows that I worked, but you should feel free to add color as you see fit. You could create a cowl with just one color block or you could add additional stripes. You could split the cowl into two colors, half and half. You could even make this with more than two colors. Make it your own.
