Canadian Skating Cap
Adapted from an 1884 magazine pattern, the “Canadian Skating Cap” is easy and quick to knit. Like the popular Victorian “Canadian Cloud” stoles, it used large needles and small yarn, making it light and airy enough that it did not crush the intricate curls and ringlets hairdressing of the day required ‘ladies’ to adopt.
My version uses sport weight wool—’Tove’ by SandnesGarn—and 8mm needles. One 50g ball is sufficient.
