This shawl is inspired by the shimmer and flicker of candle flames and all the symbolic meaning candles and their light holds.
My pattern “Candle Flame Scarf” has become quite popular. Based on that pattern I designed something even more elegant: A gently crescent-shaped shawl.

You can knit the shawl in a Sport weight yarn like the Lantern Moon Indochine yarn. The yarn’s beautiful silky sheen is enhanced by the flickering swirls in this pattern and indeed this design is inspired by this yarn. You will need 2 skeins of the Indochine yarn for the small version or 5 skeins for the larger shawl. I test knitted the small version. You can also use 254 yards (670 yards for the large version) of any other Sport weight yarn.
Or you can knit up the shawl in a fine Lace or Fingering weight yarn like the Mirasol Nuna Fina and it takes on a different kind of beauty with a look of spun spider webs. You will need 1 skein of the Mirasol Nuna Fina yarn for the small version or 2 skeins for the larger shawl. I test knitted the larger version. You can also use 200 yards (462 yards for the large version) of any other Fingering weight yarn.

For added elegance you can place beads, but you can also knit the shawl “plain”. The candle flame pattern looks different, but equally intriguing on both sides, front and back, which is a bonus in a shawl.

The instructions are for two sizes and two different weight yarns to give you an idea of how the shawl looks knitted up in different weight yarns and different sizes.
However you may knit this shawl in any weight yarn and with any amount of yarn. I explain how in the pattern instructions.
