Candlewax & Lace is a crescent shaped shawl worked flat from the top down. Knitting starts with a few stitches, followed by relaxing rows that combine lace work, beading and garter stitch. This is a great project for choosing a single skein of gradient yarn. You’ll want to knit this one repeatedly.

Final measurements after blocking- Wingspan: 63”, Depth of shawl: 12”
I used a hand dyed gradient yarn for this design. My intention was to use up as much of the yarn as possible without playing yarn chicken. I suggest giving yourself a minimum of 12g’s of yarn to complete the bind-off.
Gauge is not crucial for this pattern but note that the sample used all but 15g’s to complete the shawl before binding off.
There are several methods for adding beads to a knitted design. You can find a multitude of how-to videos on YouTube. I don’t provide a tutorial or a specific method in this pattern. Use the method that is the most efficient for you.
Although this shawl was designed using a single skein of gradient yarn, a solid, semi-solid or variegated yarn would also be beautiful. Just have fun!
