Canterbury Vest
Casual with a touch of class, this vest is equally comfortable for a walk in the woods or a day at the office.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Bust - 35 (36¾, 38¾, 41, 43, 44¾)(46¾, 49, 51, 52¾, 54¾)“, buttoned with 1” overlap at bust only; there is a slight gap at the hem.
Intended to be worn with 0-2” of ease.
Length - 21½ (22, 22, 22½, 22½, 23)(23, 23½, 23½, 24, 24)”.
YARN: 755 (800, 835, 880, 930, 980)(1030, 1080, 1120, 1160, 1200) yds worsted weight wool or wool blend.
Shown in Rowan “Pure Wool Worsted” (100% superwash wool, 219yds/100g) - 115 Rosy.
NEEDLES: U.S. size 7 (4.5 mm) 32” (80cm) or longer circular needle. U.S. size 7 (4.5 mm) 16” (40cm) circular needle.
Adjust needle size as needed to obtain correct gauge.
OTHER: Stitch holders or waste yarn, removable markers,
tapestry needle, ¾“ (19mm) button.
GAUGE: 20 sts/28 rows = 4” in stockinette, blocked.
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate. Techniques include 3-needle
bind off, short row shoulder shaping, m1 increases, picking up stitches, and reading charts.
CONSTRUCTION: Fronts and back are knit in one piece from the bottom up to the armholes and then worked separately. Shoulders are shaped with short rows and joined with 3-needle bind off. Collar bands are worked along with the fronts and seamed at the back neck. Stitches are picked up for the armhole ribbing and worked in the round.
