Canyon River Poncho
Garter stitch with a few interesting areas thrown in makes this a fun and relaxing knit project. The front and back panels are knit separately and then joined at the shoulders with a three needle bind off. An I-cord bind off makes a beautiful sturdy finish to the neckline. Stitches are then picked up on each side and the ‘sleeves’ of the poncho are knit sideways also ending in an I-cord bind off. The seam along each side that results from picking up stitches adds structure and limits any stretch even when using yarns without memory. Altogether this makes for a perfect warm layer when knit in wool or a light summer cover-up over a swimsuit or sundress when done in cotton and/or linen!
Pattern has written instructions for a long (regular) and a cropped version. But the length can be customized easily to fit your needs.
Size: Since this is a poncho, it basically fits everyone. The length can be varied. Instructions are written for:
Cropped - 20 inches (51 cm) long (not including tassels)
Long (regular) - 22 inches (56 cm) long (not including tassels)
Suggested Yarns
Note: Poncho is designed to be knit in any DK weight yarn or in Fingering weight yarn held double. The lighter colored sample used Fingering held double as the main color and DK for the CCs. And the darker sample used DK throughout.
