A knitted hat pattern suitable for beginner knitters, it’s also a great stash buster.

The hat is knitted flat as a rectangle, but with the garter stitch on the diagonal. At the end stitches are picked up along one long edge, then decreased, then the hat is joined in the round and seamed along the two shorter edges. The hat has a nice look to it by the way the stitches lie on the diagonal. The hat may be made larger or smaller, depending on the wearer.

Any weight yarn may be used; simply adjust the pattern as you go.

Techniques used: Cast on, knit, increase (by knitting in the front and back of a stitch), decrease (by knitting two stitches together), picking up stitches, sewing a seam in knitted material.
