This sweater is a typical Gansey shape, but worked in the round, bottom up to underarms, and then worked back and forth after an armhole bind off. It does not have the underarm gusset as most of us are not generally hauling lobster pots or pulling nets, and those gussets do add a lot of bulk under the arm.

The sleeves are knitted in the round by picking up and working down from the armhole to the cuff.

The sweater is meant to have a positive ease of about 2-3” to allow a shirt underneath. When working the pattern, stitch markers are very helpful to indicate the changes between chart motifs.

Some DK-Worsted yarns are heavier than others, so be sure to make a gauge swatch and use smaller or larger needles than recommended to get the gauge.
