Capricorn Sun Crop
The Capricorn Sun crop was created during Capricorn season, my birthday season and an energizing time for channeling ambition, success, and owning your power! I originally designed this top for my birthday during the COVID pandemic to give me some happiness to wear. This garment is sleeveless and cropped with a high neck. An i-cord trim is used under the arms to form an edge that seamlessly transitions to the cabled details along the neckline. Modifications are given for different neck styles and different lengths, as well as options for waist shaping.
Sizes:
XS (S, M, L, 1XL) (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X)
Actual bust measurement of finished garment:
30 (34, 38, 42, 46) (50, 54, 58, 62)”
76 (86, 97, 107, 117) (127, 137, 147, 157) cm
See 2nd to last photo for full garment measurements. Measurements given are actual bust measurements for the top. This top is designed to be closely fitted and should be worn with 0-4” negative ease in the bust. If you are between sizes, size down for a more snug fit - this will ensure the i-cord under the arms doesn’t roll down! The i-cord bind off under the arms requires some tension to stay in place, which is why negative ease is recommended. The nude sample is shown with -1.5” negative ease, size M on a 39.5” bust.
Materials:
size 8 circular needles, cable needle, stitch markers, 1 special stitch marker for BOR, scrap yarn or stitch holders, darning needle, sewing tape measure
Suggested Yarn:
For this design, I suggest a DK, worsted, or Aran weight yarn, OR fingering weight held double.
Note on yarn weight: Fingering held double, worsted, or Aran will give a denser fabric like that shown in the sample. DK weight at this gauge gives a lighter, more airy fabric. Swatch to ensure that you are meeting gauge and achieving the desired fabric!
Note on fiber content: I recommend superwash or other high twist wool so that you get good stitch definition and can really see those cable edges! This also works well in a cotton/wool blend, the wool will help to keep shape and the cotton will help to keep cool. Also, for this pattern cotton DK seems to create a slightly denser fabric than wool DK.
