Captain Jim's Marine Cap
Captain Jim’s Marine Cap is a gender neutral, three-season staple hat. The hat’s compact size makes it perfect to shove into a pocket or bag, making the ideal every-day-carry hat.
The hat gained the name “Jim” because my brother’s manager happened to be walking past when I solicited input on the name of his new hat. The name stuck because the comfortable and casual sound matched the feel of the hat.
The braided, marine inspired, cable makes the cap a lively knit, but the repeat is short enough to be easily memorized. The ribbing makes the hat stretchy enough to fit a wide range of head sizes.
Whether you’re hiking a trail, sailing or catching a drink after work, this hat will be your constant companion.
This hat is extremely stretchy, with the one size written fitting heads with circumferences between 35 cm to 65 cm (13 inches to 25 inches).
This pattern uses one skein of of Indigodragonfly CaribouBaa, or similar smooth fingering weight yarn.
You will need a 3.0 mm (US 2.5) 40 cm (16 inch) circular knitting needle for the body of the hat, 3.0 mm (US 2.5) double pointed needles for the crown, a darning needle and stitch markers. A cable needle is necessary if you would like one for cabling.
The current version of this pattern is Dec 2018.
