Carbonear
Carbonear is a circular hap, alternating between Fair Isle bands and lace. Lace flaps are created that overlap the middle Fair Isle band. After the band is complete the flaps are rejoined and the lace patterning continued. The flaps give a spoke-like appearance, and along with the name of Carbonear, I’m reminded of atomic structures and envision lace bands bonding over the Fair Isle.
Note that despite the appearance of colour blocking, it is almost entirely in the round. All lace is worked in the round except for the 19 lace flaps that overlap the middle Fair Isle band. Those lace flaps are worked separately and flat, then joined to the fabric in the next round. All Fair Isle is worked in the round.
Carbonear is pattern #10 of Landed, Volume 1: The Avalon, Timeless Lace and Stranded Knitting Patterns for the Adventurous Handknitter.
