The Cardiff Bay Shawl from Emma’s book, A Knitter’s Guide to Shawl Design, is inspired by the beautiful textures and colours surrounding the Welsh National Assembly building in Cardiff, Wales. As well as by looking out across the Bay and up to the rooftops of the surrounding buildings, a great deal of inspiration can be found by looking down at the ground; in this case, a small section of paving provides the detailed inspiration for the stitch patterns. The resulting shawl design combines texture and openwork to represent the intersecting paving patterns.
