Size 3 crochet thread in red and black or copper and black, and 2 mm (U.S. size 0) double pointed needles (DPNs) are recommended, however any weight of yarn and related needle sizes can be used.

A small amount of orange or yellow embroidery floss is needed for the beak.

Additional supplies are batting and a tapestry needle for assembly. Optional supplies include 4.5mm safety eyes, cord or thread to make an ornament.
